KHAIRPUR, Oct 16: A large number of residents of the Haji Paproz village held a demonstration in Ranipur on Thursday against police excesses.

They said the Ranipur police raided their village and arrested 24 persons without any reason.

They said one of the arrested villagers was recovered by a raid commissioner appointed by the district sessions judge.

The protesters maintained that the RPO, Sukkur, had appointed the ASP, Khairpur city, for an inquiry into the matter but the investigation had not been started yet.

INJURED: Some unidentified persons injured three residents — Ghulam Qadir Shah, Ali Raza Shah and Ghulam Shah — of Saddar Jioon Bhatiyoon on Wednesday evening.

Relatives of the injured said they went to the Abdul Rehman Unnar police station for registration of an FIR but the police refused to register the case and threatened them with dire consequences.

DEMO: Lower staff of the education department, Faiz Ganj, took out a procession on Thursday against the EDO, education, for not providing them with uniforms.

The protesters later staged a sit-in.

Protest: A large number of students of the Shah Abdul Latif University held a protest demonstration in Hingorja against registration of a case against their nine colleagues on Thursday.

They raised slogans against the university administration.

The students regretted that the administration was polluting the atmosphere of the university instead of resolving problems the institute was facing.
