KARACHI: KESC detects power theft

KARACHI, Oct 16: The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) detected power theft of over Rs46 million at two factories in F.B Area.

The KESC said that during investigations of meter reversing at K.K. Grammar School, it was revealed that the owner of the school, Qurban Ali Khan, also owned factories, Habibia Ice Factory and Habibia Industries Cold Storage, and the meters of the factories were found running on direct connections.

At the Habibia Ice Factory an underground cable was attached to a direct line of the KESC and 325-kilowatt (kw) load was being consumed to run the factory against the sanctioned load of 99kw. Two fake metres wee also found in the factory office.

At the cold storage the load in use was 163kw against a sanctioned load of 5kw. The meter appeared tampered as all the seals were broken and the terminal cover were missing, for power to be used directly.—PPI
