KARACHI: Rangers set up water centre

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Oct 16: The Rangers on Thursday established a water distribution-cum-complaint centre at Mominabad to meet the water requirement of both Orangi and SITE Towns’ water-deficit pockets and to receive water-related complaints.

Inaugurating the centre, Sindh Rangers’ deputy director- general, Brig Mohammad Masood, said with the setting up of the centre, residents of both the towns would be able to get water through tankers on time and without difficulties.

He also announced that with a view to providing water to poor and low-income groups of both the towns, eight fibre glass tanks, each having a capacity of 2000 gallons, would be installed at different places.

Brig Masood also directed the officials concerned to install an electric water cooler at the complaint centre for those visiting it.

SHORTAGE: Many parts of the city either went dry or received scant water supply on Thursday.

The hard-hit areas included Gulshan-i-Iqbal’s Block 10, Gulistan-i-Jauhar’s various apartment buildings and bungalows, Clifton’s blocks 2, 4, 5 and 9, Bath Island’s Gulshan-i-Faisal, Lyari’s Baghdadi, D D Chaudhry Road, Mithadar, Kharadar, Ramswami, Ranchore Lane, Mehmoodabad, Manzoor Colony, parts of PECHS blocks 2, 3 and 6, especially its green-belt area, Bahadurabad No 3, Adamjee Nagar, Bangalore Town, Jinnah Cooperative Housing Society, Sharfabad, Dhoraji Colony, Maqbool-i-Aam Cooperative Housing Society, Federal B’ Area’s blocks 14 and 15, Shershah and different sectors of Orangi, Baldia, Surjani and North Karachi.

Besides, the other localities which went without water on Thursday under weekly water-holiday system included Landhi, Korangi, Defence Housing Authority, National Refinery, Karachi Port Trust, Pakistan Railways, PAF (Korangi) Base and its adjoining localities.

The Residents Action Committee of Gulistan-i-Jauhar’s Block 13 complained that acute water shortage has been persisting in different apartment buildings, such as Rabia City, Golden Heights, Bisma Garden and adjoining bungalows, mainly because they are supplied water for only one hour with a low pressure on alternate days.

A similar complaint has been received from residents of Federal B’ Area’s blocks 14 and 15 and Clifton’s blocks 2, 4 and 5.

Residents of the affected blocks of FB Area said that although they are supposed to get the supply on alternate days, their localities often go dry for three consecutive days whenever weekly water-holiday is enforced in the localities.
