HYDERABAD, Oct 15: The Sindh National Party said that the party would launch a resistance struggle for the rights of Sindh and to begin with it would hold a protest demonstration in front of the Karachi Press Club on Oct 24.

Speaking at a press conference at the Hyderabad Press Club on Tuesday, the party chairman, Amir Bhambhro; general secretary Dilshad Bhutto, and joint secretary Wahid Bux Sangrasi said that following the military takeover of the country, the law and order situation had reached a point of no return, hundreds of innocent people had been killed due to sectarian terrorism and bomb blasts, justice had become a misnomer, corruption and poverty had increased and the people had been deprived of all basic facilities, including education and health.

The SNP leaders said price hike and unemployment had made the lives of the people miserable.

They said Gen Pervez Musharraf soon after taking over power had announced a seven-point agenda but failed to implement even one point.

They claimed that eversince the creation of Pakistan, the Sindh province had been subjected to excesses but the injustices against the people of Sindh during Gen Musharraf’s regime had crossed all limits.

They said that now President Gen Musharraf had decided to construct the Kalabagh dam and the greater Thal canal, notwithstanding the fact that these projects had been rejected by the elected assemblies of the three provinces.

They made it clear that Liaquat Jatoi and Nisar Ahmed Memon, who were advocating the cause of the Kalabagh dam, had no credentials to represent Sindh as they were “elected through force”.

They said that the rulers and the Punjabi establishment was not only engaged in a conspiracy to construct anti-Sindh water projects, but since the last three years they were also looting the oil, gas and mineral resources of Sindh.

They alleged that resources of Punjab were being preserved to be used at the appropriate time.

They said that the multinational companies which had descended on Sindh were not prepared even to provide jobs to the local people.

The SNP leaders said that due to these excesses, the SNP had decided to lau-nch a resistance movement against the excesses and raise its voice at the international level.

They also appealed to the World Bank and the IMF and other donor agencies not to advance any loans to the Government of Pakistan for the construction of anti-people’s projects.
