KARACHI: Wife kills husband; boy, mother die of burns

KARACHI, Oct 15: A young man was killed by his wife and her ex-husband in Liaquatabad early Wednesday morning.

According to the police, Amir, 30, was hanged to death after stabbing by his wife Fareeda and her ex-husband Mohammad Sarwar in the second floor apartment of Zeenat Square, Sharifabad.

Police said that after getting divorce from her first husband, Fareeda married Amir a year back. Fareeda had two children from her first husband, police added.

Police said that Amir was abusing Fareeda’s 14-year daughter, subsequently, she informed her first husband. The woman and her ex-husband injured Amir and later killed him by hanging. Police arrested the woman and her ex-husband in the case.

The victim’s body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem examination.

DIES: A young mother and her son died of burn wounds in their house in Liaquatabad on Wednesday.

Police said that Shaheen, 26, and her three-year-old son Shah Mir suffered severe burns when fire broke out in the kitchen of her house. The fire spread quickly engulfing the house in Azam Nagar, Liaquatabad.

Both the injured were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where they died during treatment. Doctors said that the victims had suffered more than 80 per cent burns.

Police said that her husband had died of hepatitis C a year ago. They said that two other children of the woman were out of the house when the fire broke out.

ACCIDENT: A young man died in a road accident in Quaidabad on Wednesday.

Police said that Asaduddin, 26, was on his motorcycle when a speeding vehicle knocked him down. He was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Following the accident, the errant vehicle escaped.

BODY FOUND: The body of an unidentified middle- aged man was found in Bengali Para in Ibrahim Hydri on Wednesday.

Police shifted the body to the JPMC for post-mortem examination. They said that the decomposed body was several days old. However, the autopsy report was reserved by the medico-legal officer.

ARRESTED: Police have arrested two suspects involved in at least 23 cases of murder and several police encounters.

DSP Investigation Zone-II, Gul Hameed Samoo, told Dawn that the two suspects identified as Rifat Iqbal and Waseem Ahmed were arrested while they were going on a motorcycle bearing no registration number to Korangi from Malir.

The two suspects were carrying loaded pistols, police added.

Police said that during interrogation, they admitted their involvement in murder of 23 persons, including two policemen, robberies and having escaped 15 police encounters.

FIRE: A big fire erupted in the Karachi Cotton Exchange building on I.I. Chundrigar Road on Wednesday morning.

The chief fire officer Kazim Ali told Dawn that the fire broke out in the premises of a private office located on the second floor of the building.

He said that on receiving information about the incident around 9:18am through police helpline 15, nine fire tenders worked continuously for three hours to extinguish the fire.

The fire department could not immediately ascertain the cause of the fire and extent of the damages.
