Policeman killed in Indian shelling
GILGIT, Oct 14: A police head constable was killed and nine other people, including two policemen, seriously wounded in the Qamri sector of the Northern Areas when Indian army opened unprovoked shelling on Monday night, police said on Tuesday.
Local police sources told Dawn that due to the shelling during the night, the buildings of a high school, civil supply depot and the police station were severely damaged.
They said Head Constable Mohammad Yaqub, a wireless operator at the Qamri police station, was killed and his two colleagues, Sepoy Abud and Mohammad Riaz were seriously injured in the shelling. The injured include, Ayub, Ilyas, Nawab, Mohammad Alam and two minors.
The Indian army also targeted a jeep, which met an accident, injuring its driver, Mohammad Issa.
Qamri is the last outpost of the Astor subdivision along the Line of Control, where shelling by the Indian army is common.
