Alleged drug peddler killed in encounter

HYDERABAD, Oct 14: The police killed an alleged drug baron, Raheem Makrani, in the jurisdiction of Gulshan-i-Hali police station here on Tuesday.

The DSP Site said the encounter took place after a police team spotted Raheem in Makrani Para during patrolling. He allegedly fired on the police, compelling them to return fire, he said.

Two pistols and seven bullets were seized from his possession. One-and-a-half kilogrammes of charas and 200gm of heroin were also seized.

His body was taken to the Site police station.

The DSP added that Raheem’s three accomplices, Taju, Zahid and Haroon, escaped.

Raheem’s family and the local people claimed that three plainclothesmen intercepted him and shot him dead. Later, policemen reached there and resorted to firing in the air, they said.
