‘Pakistan won’t get into arms race’
ISLAMABAD, Oct 14: Director General Inter Services Public Relations Maj-Gen Shaukat Sultan said on Tuesday that Pakistan was determined not to get into any kind of arms race.
However, it is determined to maintain a minimum deterrence to ensure that no win situation is not disturbed in the region.
In a telephonic interview to PTV, DG ISPR said Pakistan’s missiles tests could not be termed as arms race.
Pakistan is doing this to strengthen its indigenous capability, he added.
What the Indians are adding in their defence stock in the shape of Hawks, early warning system etc. are new elements he said and added it shows that they are involved in an arms race.
To a question he said, Pakistan is really concerned about its national security.
Mr Sultan said Tuesday’s test of Hataf-IV/ Shaheen-1 was in chain with the test of Oct 8 in which some new parameters were taken into account.
He said Pakistan does not want to enter into an arms race still it has a resolve as asserted by President Musharraf that “we will maintain our no win situation in the region”.
Pakistan stands firmly on this resolve and will continue to keep improving its indigenous missile programme, he maintained.
Replying to another question he said the current series of tests concluded on Tuesday however the process will continue in future also. Whenever there is a programme for more tests, the neighbouring countries will be informed in advance, he added.—APP
