KARACHI, Oct 14: Sindh education minister Mr Irfanullah Marwat has assured the college teachers that the government would ensure safety of the teachers and students at educational institutions in the province.
A spokesman for the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association said on Tuesday that a delegation of college teachers called on Mr Marwat and apprised him of the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in city colleges.
The minister was also informed about manhandling of some senior college teachers of the Government College, Landhi-Korangi 6, and the Adamjee Government Science College, and the teachers expressed concern over failure of administration in maintaining peace at the academic institutions.
The college teachers had boycotted academic activities on Monday last to protest over the alleged violence against teachers, under a decision of the SPLA, Karachi region, and had demanded the arrest of persons responsible for attacking the teachers and threatening the students. Teachers had also threatened to intensify their protest, if their demands were not met.
The minister, after hearing the teachers’ grievances, promised to tighten the security at the said colleges, while assuring that the persons involved in the ugly incidents would be arrested within three days, the spokesman added.
