KARACHI, Oct 14: The government is determined to provide all necessary facilities to the poor and to regularize Katchi Abadies in the province, Sindh chief minister’s advisor on local government, Katchi Abadies and special development, Waseem Akhtar, said on Tuesday.

He was speaking at a ceremony held to grant lease papers to the residents of Ashraful Mustafa and Makkah colonies, and inauguration of a camp, setup by Sindh Katchi Abadies Authority (SKAA), in connection with granting lease to the Katchi Abadies in UC-5 of Abu Zar Colony, North Karachi.

The advisor pointed out that the government had announced the lease prices of Katchi Abadies, keeping in view the purchasing power of common man to.

He reiterated that provision of shelter and all other amenities, including clean water, electricity, gas, well-maintained roads, to the people was among the top priorities of the government.

Mr Akhtar directed the officers of the authority to ensure transparency in the process of granting the lease to the residents of Katchi Abadies.

He asked the local administration to pay due attention to cleanliness and resolution of other civic problems in Katchi Abadies.

The advisor appealed to the people to co-operate with the government in carrying out development works and keep their localities clean.

Earlier, the area MPA, Qamar Mansoor, appreciating government’s concern for the area people, said that other Katchi Abadies would also be regularized soon.

The MPA recalled that recently Rs20 million from MPAs’ fund had been spent on a sewerage project and added that an equal amount would be spent on a water supply scheme and road repairs from the funds.

As many as 2,500 people had benefited from the regularization process, the MPA said.

Sindh Katchi Abadies Authority’s Director Manzar Abbas was also present on the occasion.—PPI
