KARACHI: Housewife dies of burns, taxi driver hurt

KARACHI, Oct 14: A housewife died of burns in New Karachi on Tuesday. Police said that Shahida, 30, was working in kitchen of her house in Sector 5-F of New Karachi when gas stove exploded resulting in the burns to the woman.

She was taken to the Civil Hospital by her brother-in-law, where she died during treatment. Doctors said that the victim had suffered 80 per cent burns.

INJURED: A taxi driver, Pervaiz, was injured after being deprived of cash and his taxi in Quaidabad on Tuesday.

Police said that three men hired a yellow cab (PL-1434) from Quaidabad roundabout. They took the taxi to some deserted place, deprived the driver of Rs300 and escaped in the taxi after stabbing him. The victim was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was admitted for treatment, police said.

BUSTED: Police busted a narcotics den in Site early on Tuesday morning.

Town Police Officer Site, ASP Imran Shaukat, told Dawn that on a tip off provided by the intelligence squad of the town, police raided a narcotics den and recovered narcotics.

He said that the suspects managed to escape from the spot. Police lodged a case under Section-553 against the suspects.

ROBBED: The wife of a journalist and her relative, travelling in a rickshaw, were robbed at gunpoint by two unidentified armed men in Block 4-A of Gulshan-i-iqbal on Tuesday evening.

One of the two women told Dawn that they were travelling in rickshaw (D-20073). She said that despite their advise to the driver to use the main road, he opted a deserted street near Patel Hospital.

On that street, in Block 4-A, two unknown men on a motorcycle intercepted the rickshaw and deprived the two women of gold ornaments and cash at gunpoint.

The two suspects escaped after depriving the two women of gold ornaments worth around Rs50,000.
