Geelani invited to summit

SRINAGAR, Oct 13: The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has invited Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Geelani to represent the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) at its summit in Malaysia, his faction said on Monday.

However, it is unlikely Syed Geelani will travel to Malaysia as he has no travel documents.

Mr Geelani was last month declared chairman of the APHC by hardliners who rejected the authority of the umbrella group’s moderate chief, Maulvi Abbas Ansari.

Syed Geelani’s faction of the Hurriyat released an invitation from Organization of the Islamic Conference Secretary General Abdelouahed Belkeziz inviting him to the summit in his capacity as “the chairman” of the Hurriyat. —AFP
