KHAIRPUR, Oct 13: Sindh Irrigation Minister Sadruddin Shah Rashdi has said that a committee comprising elected members is being constituted to prepare a report on Kalabagh dam and Thal canal projects.

He said that the Sindh government would chalk out its policy according to the report.

The minister was talking to journalists in Thari Mirwah on Monday.

He said that as a telemetry system had been installed in upcountry, whether Punjab took water for Chashma Link Canal or from a newly-constructed canal, it would have to give Sindh its water share.

Mr Rashdi said that funds had been sanctioned for strengthening the embankments of Rohri Canal and the work would start after November.

He said that Rs20 million had been approved for the repair of the bridge over Rohri Canal in Khairpur and Rs260,000 for linking of Hingorja Minor to Rohri Canal which would benefit the land irrigated through Hingorja, Samaj and Gadeji minors and would bring about 25,000 acres of land under cultivation.

Replying to a question, he said that differences among the provinces arose due to lack of leadership at national level.

To another question regarding the establishment of a private force by the Khairpur police, the minister said the Constitution permitted such a move for the purpose of watch and ward.
