PPP condemns honour killings in Sanghar

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Oct 12: Pakistan People’s Party Information Secretary Taj Haider on Sunday condemned the murder of Shazia Khaskheli and Mohammad Hasan Solangi at the hands of a tribal Jirga in Sanghar.

In a statement, Mr Haider said successive dictatorial rule in the country had been the main reason for the nurturing of uncivilized and violent attitudes in the society.

He said: “We have travelled backwards and seen a revival of inhuman traditions and attitudes in tribal and feudal societies.”

“If the uppermost courts in our land are ready to condone the takeover of the state by a brute force under the doctrine of necessity, then the ill-effects of breaking of the supreme law of the land would definitely filter downwards.

Those responsible for protecting human lives and enforcing laws would continue to abet with tyranny while innocent people were being killed.”

He said the honour of these tyrants woke up only when the noblest human sentiments were to be crushed.

When the women and the daughters of poor peasants are paraded naked in bazaars, nobody comes forward to cover their heads, he added.
