ISLAMABAD, Oct 11: Shahid Javed of Lahore Gymkhana led the field at the end of third day with a round of 74 in the 42nd Caltex National Amateur golf championship at the Islamabad Club.
His aggregate of two over par over 54 holes put him in front, six strokes ahead of Vaqas Ahmed and Tariq Mehmood, says a press release.
All three are members of the national team but in the individual category, they are strong contenders for the national title.
Vaqas did well for a third day round of gross 71 with Taimur Hassan scoring 72.
Meanwhile Pakistan won the J.R Jayewardene Trophy match by beating Sri Lanka, the defending champions, over 18 holes.
In the ladies competition, Tahira Nazir’s chances of defending her title dwindled as her round lacked consistency. Jamila Jabbar on the other hand was four strokes ahead of Tahira at 166. The next best, Mehwish Javed was at 175 and Mrs Yasmin Mubarik at 180.
On the juniors side, Danyal Jahangir, with scores of 80, 77 and 78 won the national crown with Hamza Haroon finishing second. Alis Shahid was third.
The Federal Junior Golf Team won the Inter-provincial Junior Trophy match while Punjab were runners up.
Sunday is the last day of the championship.
