GUJRANWALA, Oct 11: More than 2,000 people were arrested by police throughout the district during the last 48 hours on charge of violation of ban on pillion riding, it was learnt on Saturday.
The district administration, on the directive of the chief minister, had banned pillion riding three days ago fearing rise in terrorist activities in the aftermath of Maulana Azam Tariq’s assassination in Islamabad.
It is reported that most of the people arrested have been released on bail. Relatives of some of them reportedly protested against the police action on the district courts premises where they had come to secure their bail.
MULTAN: Police arrested 249 people and impounded their motorcycles for violation of ban on pillion riding during the last 24 hours, reports APP.
Police sources said on Saturday that Multan Sadar police arrested 64 people, Basti Malook 41, Makhdoom Rashid 34, Seetal Maari 28, Budhla Sant 22, Chahlyak 18, Cantt 16, Muzaffarabad and Qadirpur Raan 10 each and Alpa six.
