Qazi flays govt for failure to protect masses

By Our Correspondent

GUJRAT, Oct 11: The government has failed to maintain law and order which is evident from the incidents like the killing of MNA Maulana Azam Tariq and a Rakh Baloch village boy.

The Qazi, who had visited Mandi Bahauddin on Saturday on the request of a widow of Rakh Baloch whose son was kidnapped and later murdered by some influential people of the area, criticized the government for failing to protect the lives of not only common people but also of parliamentarians.

He was also critical of Mandi Sadar police for supporting the influential killers.

Sajjad of Rakh Baloch was kidnapped and murdered and his body was cut into small pieces about a month ago. Sadar police registered a case but did not arrest the killers despite repeated requests by the mother of the slain boy. Later, she visited Mansoora in Lahore where she met the Jamaat-i-Islami amir and informed him of the incident.

He asked the Saddar police to hold an impartial inquiry and arrest the killers at the earliest. He warned them that the issue would tabled in the National Assembly if they did not do justice.

He termed the killing of Maulana Azam Tariq “an act by some hidden hands to please America and a conspiracy to weaken the religious organizations.”

He claimed that the hidden hands were also conspiring to divide the MMA.

The Qazi criticized Prime Minister Jamali who “became premier by getting the vote of MNA Azam Tariq, but is reluctant in giving even a statement condemning his assassination.”

He said the day was not far when the MMA would also form its governments in the Punjab and Sindh.

He announced Rs10,000 assistance for the victim’s family.

A large number of people gathered in the Saddar Bazaar to listen to the Qazi. Police did not try to disrupt the proceedings though there was a ban on gatherings at public places under Section 144 CrPC.

ACCIDENT: A councillor and his friend were hit and killed by a speeding car on the GT Road near Panjan Kissana on Saturday.

Councillor Mian Khan and his friend Haji Yousaf were crossing the road when the car (LOE-7540) knocked them down. They died on the spot.
