Nazims want no-trust clause removed

MINGORA, Oct 11: Nazims of tehsils and town councils in the NWFP have asked the government to stop interference in their affairs, allocate sufficient development funds, besides omitting the no-confidence article from the local government Ordinance.

This was resolved in a meeting of Nazims of 25 tehsil and town councils of the NWFP on Saturday.

The meeting was presided over by Nazim of the Matta tehsil Abdul Jabbar Khan, while Rafiul Mulk Kamran Khan and Syed Akbar Shah Lala acted as hosts.

Stressing the need for omitting the no-confidence article, they said it was causing an unrest among Nazims.

They said that the increase in population was overlooked while allocating development funds, adding that they were unable to initiate new uplift schemes.

Referring to ties between representatives of the local governments and parliamentarians, they said that better ties between them were vital for serving the people’s interests.

Criticizing the government, they said funds were not available for repairing roads or provide clean drinking water in many areas.
