LAHORE, Oct 11: Bar associations must help in the promotion of freedom of expression and social justice to the aggrieved who have no other recourse.
This was observed by Punjab Adviser on Human Rights Rana Ijaz Ahmed on Saturday. He was talking to a team of lawyers at his office here.
Rana Ijaz urged the legal fraternity to help promote the human rights agenda. “Islam stands for human dignity, and lawyers should help protect the rights of the vulnerable,” the adviser said.
He urged the Bar bodies to assist in the professional training of young lawyers. Senior lawyers should share their professional knowledge and expertise with the young lawyers.
He said that a $350 million loan, extended by the Asian Development Bank for the ‘access to justice programme,’ was being spent for improvement and development of the judicial system.
He said that grants-in-aid would also be given to tehsil and district Bar associations from this amount.
He asked the associations to include local governments in the process of welfare projects of the legal community.—APP
