‘Four Dehs to be declared calamity-hit’
MIRPURKHAS, Oct 8. Sindh Irrigation Minister Sadruddin Shah Rashdi has said that the Sindh government has been asked to declare four Dehs in Mirpurkhas district calamity-hit areas following two breaches in Mithrao Canal.
Talking to the irrigation officers and affected villagers at circuit house here on Wednesday, he said that a notification in this regard is expected to be issued soon.
Mr Rashdi said that the revenue EDO had been directed to conduct a survey of losses in the area.
Speaking at the meeting, Sindh Assembly speaker Syed Muzaffar Hussain Shah said that Rs2 billion were expected to be provided by the federal government for rehabilitation of Sindh’s irrigation system.
He said that with the funds, development works of Mithrao, Nara, Thar and Makhi Frash canals would be carried out among other works.
BOOKED: Five men, including former administrator, Kunri Town Committee, have been booked by the Anti-Corruption Establishment here on Wednesday for embezzling government funds.
Mohammad Aslam Arain had stated in an application to the ACE, that a contractor, Anwar, had got a Rs225,000 road contract revised to Rs950,000 with the connivance of former administrator of the town committee Fahimuddin Memon, former assistant engineer Mukhtar Talpur, former sub-engineer Jangsher Ali and accounts clerk Umerdin Soomro.
He said that Rs 940,000 had been paid to the contractor but no construction had been made on the site. The ACE officials after conducting preliminary investigation registered an FIR against the accused.
