HYDERABAD, Oct 8: The general council of the Awami Tehrik at a meeting held here on Tuesday condemned the construction of the greater Thal canal and the proposed construction of the Kalabagh dam under army pressure saying that President Gen Pervez Musharraf was trying to prolong his rule.

The meeting, which was presided by Rasool Bux Palijo, expressed determination that the people of Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP would not allow the construction of these projects.

It appointed several committees for various districts to muster public support for the meeting scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on Oct 23 against the construction of the greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam.

It appealed to the people of Sindh to attend the public meeting which was being organized by the anti-greater Thal canal committee.
