LAHORE, Oct 7: Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court Iftikhar Husain Chaudhry on Tuesday approved a sanction of Rs10.87 million for the installation of two elevators at the Aiwan-i-Adal.

Lahore Bar Association president Mansoorur Rehman Khan Afridi made this claim while talking to reporters after having a meeting with the CJ at the LHC. He said the installation work would start soon and would be completed within the next two months.

The CJ had also assured the LBA president of approving the projects relating to the construction of a committee room and a road surrounding the sessions court’s premises while the problem relating to public parking outside both the sessions court and the Aiwan-i-Adal was also discussed.

“The CJ has also assured that the two labour courts, two anti-corruption courts and one drug court will soon be consolidated on the premises of district courts while the construction of an auditorium at the Aiwan-i-Adal is also on the cards,” Mr Afridi claimed, adding that he wanted all these projects to be completed before the lapse of his tenure in February 2004.

Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had also given a Rs20 million grant to the LBA last week for development projects relating to the subordinate judiciary.
