GILGIT, Oct 7: Rebutting a claim by ISPR Director-General Shaukat Sultan, a Northern Areas Legislative Council member has said there is no terrorist camps in Tangir tehsil of Diamer district.

Lawmaker Amir Jan claimed on Monday that the army dismantled a madressah (seminary) during the operation on Saturday against terrorists.

Mr Jan who hails from Tangir said the madressah was built in the highlands of Maskar to teach students during the summer time as majority of villagers stayed there with their cattle during the season. “Why did the army fail to arrest the so-called terrorists and suspects or seize weapons in Tangir, despite a grand operation?” he argued.

He also deplored that the elected members were not taken into confidence on the operation. Instead of launching an operation, they (army) should have contacted the local jirga to help arrest the suspects if they existed at all, he said.

However, the army operation continued on Monday, sources said.
