QUETTA, Oct 6: Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani has urged Ulema to play their role in eliminating the menace of sectarianism from the country and forging unity among all sects.

Speaking at a seminar organized by the Jamia Salfia Dawatal Haq on “Islam a religion of peace and security” here on Sunday evening, he said a heavy responsibility was lying on the shoulder of Ulema in this regard which they would have to fulfil.

The governor expressed concern over growing religious intolerance, and said the enemy was trying to divide the nation on the basis of sect, cast, ethnicity and tribalism.

He urged upon the Ulema and other people to unite against forces out to harm the country by shunning their differences. He said it was our responsibility to unite the whole nation and create brotherhood and harmony.

The governor said there was no place for terrorism in Islam as it was a religion of peace. He said it was an open fact that Muslims were facing discrimination and injustice all over the world. He said world should take notice of these grievances and adopt measures for eliminating injustice from the Muslim world.

Mr Ghani said science and other subjects should also be introduced in the curriculum of religious institutions to enable the students to meet the challenges of the world.

President of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal Balochistan Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani, Dr Sohail Hasan, Maulana Irshadul Haq Atri, Abdul Jabbar Shakir, Dr Khalid Alvi, Qari Roohullah, Maulana Abdul Majeed Kharani and representative of Saudi Ambassador Sheikh Abdul Rehman also read out their papers in the seminar.

Later, the governor laid down the foundation stone of the new library and computer laboratory building of the Jamia Salfia.
