KARACHI, Oct 6: The provincial authorities have notified in-prison trial of cases against Haji Lal Mohammed, alias Laloo, a notorious criminal, allegedly involved in several cases of murder, dacoity and kidnapping.

Laloo, who was also grilled during the investigation, in connection with the Daniel Pearl kidnapping case, was arrested early last year.

Sources told Dawn on Monday that the provincial Home authorities issued notifications for holding of different courts at the Karachi Central Prison premises, for conducting the trial of seven cases against the accused.

The sources said the decision to hold the trial inside the prison was taken by the authorities as a security measures.

They said the courts were informed that as there were serious threats to the life of the accused, it was not safe for him to be produced in the city courts.

Meanwhile, the Home department notified head money on Arshad alias Pappu, son of Haji Laloo. He, along with two other accomplices, was recently declared a proclaimed offender in a kidnapping for ransom case.
