HYDERABAD, Oct 6: The Pakistan Medical Association, Sindh, has stressed the need for revamping the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Sindh PMA president Dr Noor Mohammad Memon said the PMDC should take suo motu action in cases of violation of medical ethics.

Dr Memon said initially the council charged registration fee only once but later it made periodical renewals compulsory and the fees kept on increasing for different specialities.

He pointed out that the PMDC charged Rs250,000 form medical institutions as inspection fee. He said private sector institutions could afford the high fee but public institutions were not in a position to pay the fee.

He alleged that the council charged high fee to finance foreign trips of its office-bearers.

Dr Memon regretted that the PMDC had forgotten its role to monitor and maintain medical ethics in providing healthcare to patients and protect the profession and professionals against wrong policies of bureaucrats and politicians.
