Chaos at entry gates

Published October 6, 2003

LAHORE, Oct 5: Inadequate and disorganised arrangements were made for spectators at the Gaddafi Stadium where complete chaos prevailed at the entry gates for the second One-day game on Sunday, depriving hundreds of fans with tickets from entering the stadium.

The worst situation was witnessed at the Imran Khan Enclosure, where one seat costs Rs 1200.

It was about one hour before the Pakistan innings closed when the Imran Khan Enclosure was closed with hundreds of fans standing in row with their tickets, including women.

The police authorities advised them to use the Rs 800 Javed Miandad Enclosure instead.

Hoping to see the remainder of the game, the fans went to Miandad Enclosure but they found some ticket-holders already waiting after being forced in from the Senior Citizens Gate.

A police official ordered them to leave the gate in 15 minutes, otherwise, he would take stern action against them. There was no authorised person to redress the ticket-holders’ grievances.a
