GUJRANWALA, Oct 5: A three-member gang of top 10 criminals was arrested on Sunday after a brief encounter at Garjakh.
Acting on a tip-off that some top 10 criminals were present at an outhouse, DPO Saud Aziz directed the Garjakh police to conduct a raid there and arrest them. A team, headed by the SHO, reached the spot and besieged the area.
Getting wind of the police arrival, the criminals opened fire on them. The police also returned the fire. However, after a brief shootout the criminals laid down their arms. Later, police arrested three outlaws — Tanvir Ahmad, Wazir Ali and Amjad. Police also recovered a Kalashnikov, a 44 bore rifle, two pistols and a dozen stolen motorcycles and other vehicles from their possession.
The DPO said the arrested outlaws were wanted to police in a dozen cases of dacoity, robbery, murder and other heinous crimes.
The DPO also announced cash prizes and commendation certificates to members of the raiding party.
A case has been registered against them.
GAS FACILITY: The government will provide gas and other facilities to dwellers of kutchi abadis to fulfil their longstanding demand.
This was stated by PPP Patriot MNA Imranullah Chaudhry while speaking at an inaugural ceremony of the gas supply to Ismail Colony here on Sunday.
He said the people of the neglected areas were facing problems in the absence of gas and other basic facilities, although they were paying taxes to the government.
He said the government had formulated a strategy to provide gas and electricity to remote areas under the Tameer-i-Watan Programme. Union council Nazim Shabbir Ahmad and other councillors were also present on the occasion.
SUSPENDED: Two sanitary inspectors of the city tehsil council were suspended from service on the charge of negligence by the City Nazim and also issued them show-cause notices here on Sunday.
Rashid and Iftikhar were found missing from their duty.
