SHIKARPUR, Oct 5: Journalists held protest demonstrations in various parts of interior Sindh on Sunday against the killing of a Shikarpur journalist, Amir Bakhsh Brohi, who worked for the Daily Kawish.
The journalists of Shikarpur district protested against the killing of the journalist by marching through the areas of Hathi Gate, Jumani Hall, Hazari Gate, Lakhi Gate, Station Road and New Faujdari Road.
They observed a sit-in at the Lakhi Gate Tower Chowk and in front of the DPO House.
The DPO assured them that the culprits would be arrested within three days.
Meanwhile, a black day was also observed by the journalists in Shikarpur, Garhi Yasin, Madeji, Chak, Lakhi and Khanpur. They hoisted black flags on press club buildings as a sign of protest against Mr Amir’s killing.
Mr Amir’s relatives held a protest demonstration at the Rustam Road Chowk and Sunny Petrol Pump Chowk demanding that his killers be arrested quickly. A section of the Sukkur-Jacobabad and Kandhkot roads remained blocked for an hour.
THATTA: The journalists of Thatta held their protest by taking out a rally from the Thatta Press Club.
The protesters wearing black armbands marched through the main thoroughfares of Thatta finally stopping at Mirpur Bathoro. They were led by Kashif Ali Khwaja, Abdul Hussain Mandhro, Mehboob Brohi and Yar Mohammad Jalalani who also spoke on the occasion.
Meanwhile, a condolence meeting was held at Sujawal. Fateha was offered for the departed soul.
Similar meetings and demonstrations were also held at Daro, Chuhar Jamali, Jati, Bannu and other towns. The protesters demanded that the culprits be arrested soon.
The journalists pledged to pursue the mission of Mr Amir. They also pledged to continue working against all social evils of society.
They blocked the highway at Mirpur Bathoro town.
LARKANA: The journalists of Larkana held the protest under the banner of the Sindh Journalists Organization and were led by Murtaza Kalhoro, Muneer Soomro, and Mashooque Odhano.
The protesters started marching from the district council hall.
The leaders of the Larkana Chamber of Commerce and Industry — Iqbal Shaikh and Aslam Shaikh — along with Dr Sabhiya Mughal, leader of the Khaksar Tehrik Pakistan, and writers affiliated with the Sindhi Adabi Sangat also participated in the demonstration.
The newsmen, who converged at the Pakistan Chowk, demanded that the government arrest the killers as soon as possible.
They urged the government for protecting journalists.
They later offered Fateha for the departed soul.
SUKKUR: The journalists of Sukkur held a protest demonstration against the killing of the journalist.
The journalists of Khairpur, Kandhkot, Ghotki and Pano Aqil also held protest demonstrations.
They raised slogans against the government and demanded that his killers be arrested immediately.
JACOBABAD: On the call of the Sindh Journalists Organization, a protest demonstration was held on Sunday in front of the Jacobabad Press Club.
Journalists marched through the main roads of the city.
MIRPURKHAS: The journalists observed token hunger strike in front of the press club to protest against the killing of Mr Amir.
They demanded that his killers be arrested soon and protection be provided to all journalists.
They decided to hold a protest demonstration on Monday.
BADIN: The journalists of Badin district held a protest demonstration against the journalist’s killing.
Wearing black armbands, they marched through the main roads of the city and raised slogans against the Shikarpur administration.
They demanded that the government provide protection to all journalists. Later, a memorandum was handed over to the DPO, Badin, Javed Odho.
