ISLAMABAD, Oct 4: Nungnudda Wannasuk of Thailand on Saturday stood tall after upsetting her compatriot and top seed Ditthim Punjaporn 7-6, 6-1 to win the ITF girls singles title at the Islamabad Club courts on Saturday.

In a final that failed to provide the kind of action that was expected, Nungnudda Wannasuk won without much difficulty to earn 30 ITF ranking points.

Both players fought hard in the first set that saw them locked at 6-6. Wannasuk however won the tie-break at 7-5 and took the set at 7-6 (5).

Wannasuk dominated her opponent in the second set and broke her service to take a commanding lead and then went on to win the set 6-1.

Meanwhile, Sumit Gupta and Vivek Shokeen of India outplayed the home pair Shahzad Khan and Wasif Cheema 6-4, 6-4 to land the doubles crown.

In the first set the score went up to 3-3. However, Shahzad and Wasif took the lead when they broke the 7th game of Gupta but Wasif was unable to hold his 8th game.

Gupta/Shokeen then won the set at 6-4 by breaking the 10th game of Shahzad Khan.

Gupta and Shokeen built up a 4-2 lead by breaking Wasi’s serve. The Pakistani pair fought back to level the score at 4-4 by breaking the 7th game of Shokeen.
