LIVERPOOL (England), Oct 4: England striker Michael Owen limped out of Liverpool’s 2-1 Premier League defeat by Arsenal on Saturday, just seven days before the national team’s decisive Euro 2004 qualifier against Turkey.
Owen, England’s leading forward, fell awkwardly on his ankle in the second half of the game at Anfield and was later substituted.
Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier, speaking on Sky Sports, said an X-ray had revealed no bone damage but that Owen would undergo a scan on Sunday.
“It’s too early to say whether he will be fit for England,” Houllier said. “It could be nothing, it could be something more serious, but I will say that Michael is usually a quick healer.”—Reuters
