Teenaged girl steals show at press club

By Our Correspondent

PESHAWAR, Oct 4: Local teenaged singer Sitara Younas stole the show when she gave her maiden public performance at a Peshawar Press Club programme held to acknowledge the hard work and award-winning performance of the PTV producers in the special programmes televised to celebrate the Fatima Jinnah’s year.

Sitara, a 9th class student, sang Noor Jehan’s songs with utter perfection and received well-deserved appreciation from enthusiasts.

Earlier, press club President Jan Afzal welcomed the guests and congratulated PTV General Manager Farmanullah Jan and senior producer Syed Masood Ahmad Shah for their work.

Local singer Naima Mushtaq also sang late Noor Jehan’s song while Gulzar Alam presented Ghani Khan’s ghazals in front of the audience in Zubair Mir Hall of the club.

But the pick of the show was barely 14-year-old Sitara Younas, the winner of a national award in the songs competition held in connection with the Fatima Jinnah’s year recently.

Artiste Iftikhar Qaiser as usual delivered a qawali and a ghazal while Nazia Iqbal, despite bad health, sang two songs, one each in Pashto and Urdu.

Acclaimed comedians Said Rehman Sheeno and Ismail Shahid performed as hosts and send the hall into endless laughers every now and then. They presented very good skits.

Several other TV and stage performers kept waiting to be called onto the stage, but they could not be given an opportunity due to a shortage of time.

Later, Farmanullah Jan thanked the journalist community for holding the function. He also promised to arrange a concert for the local journalists before Ramzan and extended an invitation to all the members of the press club.

Producer Masood Ahmad Shah thanked the audience for holding a night in their honour and vowed that he would continue efforts to give good programmes to the TV viewers.

Programme Manager Shaukat Ali, artistes Javaid Babar, Najibullah Anjum, Alamzeb Mujahid, Tariq Jamal, Fazle Rehman, Professor Nasir Ali Syed, Younas Qiasi, Jamshed Ali Khan, Jajeeba Faiz and others also attended the show.
