Polluted water inundates graveyards

SUKKUR, Oct 4: Polluted water from industries of Bahawlpur, Punjab, has inundated graveyards of Khair Garh, Mai Dholan and Lalepoto in the Ghotki district.

In this connection, elders of the Khenjo village met the Ghotki DCO to apprise him of the situation.

The villagers said not only agricultural lands spreading over 60 kilometres were affected but graveyards had also came under water. They said several cattlehead had died after drinking the dirty water.

The DCO assured the villagers that he would write to higher officials for resolution of the problem.

Meanwhile, an all parties conference was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party leader Abdul Fateh Samejo in Daharki which was attended by political and social activists of the Ghotki district.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Samejo, Mian Abdul Haq alias Mian Mithoo, Mandhal Shar and others condemned the disposing of Punjab effluent in Sindh.

They said sit-ins would be staged in front of houses of elected representatives.

They warned that a shutter-down strike would be observed in Ghotki if the Sindh chief minister did not take notice of the matter.
