Rawalpindi seize early initiative against AJK

ISLAMABAD, Oct 2: A 138-run second wicket partnership between Test discard Naveed Qureshi and Sohail Nasir helped Rawalpindi take the first day’s honours in the PCB Inter-district Cricket Championship game against Azad Jammu Kashmir.

After Munir Ansari and Sheraz Khalid, who shared six wickets, had triggered the fall of AJK for just 176 runs, Rawalpindi were poised to take first innings lead, finishing the day at 168 for two.

Naveed cracked 10 boundaries in his innings of 75 and Sohail, who was 62 not out, flogged the rival attack to put their side in a happy position by the close at the Army Cricket Ground.

Elsewhere, Chakwal were able to collect an impressive 234 for six against Islamabad at the Shalimar Ground where play began after lunch because of a damp wicket.

Sohail Rukhsar led the scorers with a well-played knock of 79. Raheel Majeed and Asher Zaidi were the wicket-takers, both claiming two scalps each.

Jhelum put on a decent 291 in 88.5 overs against Attock at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi. They were powered by Waseem Saeed and Iqrar Hussain, both of who hit half centuries. Nadeem Sikander took the most wickets returning figures of three for 52 while Wasim had two for 39.

JHELUM 291 in 88.5 overs (Waseem Saeed 65, Iqrar Hussain 53; Nadeem Sikander 3-52, Wasim 2-39) v ATTOCK.

Our Sports Reporter adds from Karachi: Fine batting by Ahmed Zeeshan Malik (86) and Fahadullah (83) helped KCCA Zone-II amass 322 for nine in their allotted 90 of the first innings against Zone-I at the Student Cricket Ground.

Wicket-keeper Ahmed Zeeshan Malik, cousin of Test batsman Farhan Adil, struck 10 boundaries while Fahadullash slammed 11 fours and two sixes.

Mohammad Zafar was the other notable scorer with 43 that included nine hits to the fence.

Talent opening batsman Khalid Latif struck a superb 80 but his side Zone-IV managed a moderate total of 209 against Zone-II at the TMC Ground.

Farhan Adil contributed 49 while Mohammad Bilal hit 38 as slow left-armer Atif Raza captured four for 55 in 24.4 overs.

Zone-II, in reply, reached 39 for one at draw of stumps.

Mansoor Ali excelled with a knock of 77, including six fours, as Zone-V compiled 314 in 88.4 overs against Zone-VII at the Asifabad Sports Ground. Rizwan Saeed hammered seven boundaries in making 59.

Zone-VII will begin their reply on Friday.

APP adds from Hyderabad: A superb knock of 102 by Iqbal Shaikh helped Hyderabad score 280 against Dadu at the Niaz Stadium.

Iqbal’s innings was laced with 14 boundaries and three sixes as the hosts were bowled out in 71.4 overs.

Dadu replied with 19 for no wicket.

Meanwhile, Mirpurkhas declared teir first innings at 336 for four in 83 overs with Taj Wassan scoring an unbeaten 100, Rehan Ali 61 and skipper Ghulam Murtaza 57.

Badin were 26 for two at close of play.
