Arrest warrants issued

PESHAWAR, Oct 2: The Peshawar district and sessions judge on Thursday issued non-bailable arrest warrants of a customs inspector, Anjum Fida Hussain, for not appearing before the court in a case despite repeated notices.

A habeas corpus petition was filed by Khaliq Dad who alleged that Mr Fida kept his son in illegal detention.

The customs staff claimed that detainee Ghani Dad had concealed 500 grams of heroin in a parcel and booked it for France. The drug was detected at Karachi, and he was arrested in Peshawar, they said.

The judge observed that under the law, the arrested person had to be produced before the court concerned within 24 hours of his arrest. The detainee, he said, was produced in the court after spending two days in illegal custody.—Bureau
