University modifies admission policy

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Oct 2: The University of Peshawar has abolished the seats reserved under the self-finance scheme in the morning shift and increased seats for the students seeking admissions on merit, officials said.

In the morning shift, the university had reserved 10 seats each in its certain departments under the self-finance plan whereas other departments also arranged classes in the evening shift under the scheme.

According to new rules, now the institution in the morning shift has increased seats for regular students from 30 to 40 in the departments which offered admissions under the self-finance plan.

Now all the departments will fill seats in the morning shift through open merit.

NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah had recently directed the vice-chancellors of all public sector universities in the province to re-assess the self-finance scheme.

The administration has also announced an incentive package for the students who studied under the scheme and obtained top positions in the MA and MSc previous examinations.

Under this package, the departments concerned will remit the fee of the position holders.

Fees under the self-finance scheme of the university ranges between Rs5,000 and Rs25,000 per year.
