KARACHI: Road repairs in full swing


KARACHI, Oct 2: Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Wednesday paid surprise visits to different localities of the city to inspect condition of roads, cleanliness and traffic flow.

He also inspected the ongoing work on various development projects and reviewed pace of repair work on roads damaged during recent rains.

DCO Mir Hussain Ali and EDO (Works) Shoaib Siddiqui accompanied the governor for some time.

Dr Ibad directed the officials present at the sites to complete the road repair work at the earliest and ensure standard. He also issued similar directives to the officials handling other projects.

While reviewing traffic arrangements, he stressed the need for effective implementation of traffic rules, especially pertaining to public transport. He said that it must be ensured that buses, mini-buses and coaches did make a stop at the designated stops.

The city government has undertaken repair of all the rain-battered main roads in the city in two phases. In the first phase, those roads are being repaired expeditiously about which a large number of complaints have been lodged. Some of them are Jahangir Road, Business Recorder Road, Urdu College-Mazar-i-Quaid road, University Road, M. A. Jinnah Road (up to Native Jetty Bridge), Shahrah-i-Iraq, roads, Old Sabzimandi-Sindhi Hotel road, Fakir Colony-graveyard road, Rashid Minhas Road, Jauhar Morr-Shama Cinema road, Shahrah-i-Orangi, Banaras-Islam Nagar road and Landhi-Korangi Road.

The first phase is to be completed on Oct 19.

Repair of Tannery Road and Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Road commences on Friday and would be completed by Oct 9.

The City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, has already fixed Nov 15 as deadline for the completion of road repair work.

The city government’s asphalt plant is being operated round the clock to ensure supplying of road-building material to the firms indulged in the repair work in the city’s five zones. —PPI/APP
