HYDERABAD, Oct 2: A PPP MNA from Dadu district, Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur, and MPA Ghulam Nabi Shoro have warned the authorities that if inhuman atrocities by the SHOs of Aamri and Chhachhar police stations and the DSP of Aamri against the people were not stopped immediately, the people would observe a shutter-down strike and block the Indus Highway.
They were speaking at a press conference at the Hyderabad Press Club on Thursday.
Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur said that the police officers of Dadu district had become so powerful that even the MNA, the MPA and the district Nazim could not get an ASI transferred, and added that even the Inspector General of Police was helpless regarding it.
The MNA said that these police officers were harassing and intimidating the opponents of Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah and as many as 12 people had been implicated and arrested in false cases.
Demanding the immediate removal of SHO Aamri and SHO Chhachhar police stations, the PPP MNA demanded that the DPO, Hyderabad, or the DPO, Sanghar, should be deputed to hold inquiries against these SHOs.
He made it clear that any inquiry by the DPO Dadu would not be acceptable.
He appealed to the Sindh chief minister, the IGP, Sindh, and the GOC, Hyderabad, to protect the people of Dadu district against police excesses.
Earlier, a large number of people of Aamri and Chhachhar, led by councillor Khadim Hussain, Mohammad Ilyas, Mohammad Yousuf Chhachhar and Ali Gul Chhachhar, held a demonstration in front of the press club in protest against the SHOs of Aamri and Chhachhar police stations and the area DSP.
200 CHAKKIES CLOSED: At least 200 Atta Chakkies in Hyderabad have been closed due to the non-availability of wheat on Thursday.
Talking to this correspondent, the president, Atta Chakki Owners Association, Haji Nawab Ali, confirmed that all the Chakkies in the city were lying closed as the allocation of wheat had not been released by the provincial secretary, Food.
He said that today (i.e. Thursday), 100 Chakki owners visited the district food controller’s office to get their charge-sheets passed but they were told that the Food Secretary had not yet released the monthly allocation of wheat.
He was highly critical of the food secretary saying that for the last three months, the Chakki owners of Hyderabad were being meted out step-motherly treatment.
He claimed that even the Sindh governor had taken notice of these excesses and written a letter to the chief secretary regarding it.
Nawab Ali said that the chief secretary has also called for a report from the food secretary about the discrimination in the supply of wheat to the Chakki owners of Hyderabad.
He appealed to the Sindh governor to take notice of the alleged excesses of the food secretary against Hyderabad.
He said due to wheat being in short supply, the Chakki owners of Hyderabad had increased the price of flour from Rs800 per bag in August to Rs860 per bag in September.
