SHEIKHUPURA, Oct 1: The Motorway Police, led by its women staff, held two alleged smugglers with arms and contraband worth millions of rupees after an encounter near Kot Abdul Malik early Wednesday. MP patrol officer, Inspector Zareena Anjum, signalled a car (IDL-2142) to stop, but its occupants opened fire on the patrol which included SIs Farhat Bashir and Alim Khan. The police returned the fire.

They radioed a message and a contingent, led by DSP Malik Jehanzeb, reached there. After about two-hour shootout, police held Adnan Shahzad and Ismail with arms and hashish. Police said the gang leader escaped.—APP
