LANDI KOTAL, Oct 1: Tribesmen blocked the Peshawar-Torkham highway here on Wednesday over a monetary dispute, resulting in disruption of vehicular traffic for several hours.
Khugakhel and Zakhakhel, subtribes of the Shinwaris and Afridis respectively, have developed a row over charges for parking trucks and flying coaches at a stand in Torkham.
The Khugakhels who own the stand charge every truck carrying goods Rs100 and Rs50 from empty vehicles. But the trucks belonged to the Shinwaris subtribe do not pay, which led to the dispute when the Zakhakhels also refused to pay the charges.
Several times in the past, the Zakhakhel tribesmen had also blocked the Peshawar-Torkham highway to express their displeasure over the charges.
On Wednesday, Afridi truck drivers and the truck stand owners were engaged in resolving the dispute, but when they failed to reach an agreement, the Khugakhels blocked the road at Charwazgai and Zakhakhels the highway at Sheikhwal.
Later, the road blockade was lifted on the intervention of the political administration.
