KARACHI, Sept 30: Three Pakistani teams will figure in the Bermuda Bowl World Bridge Championship to be held at Monte Carlo (Monaco) from Nov 3-15, Pakistan Bridge Federation (PBF) announced on Tuesday.
Secretary PBF Tariq Rasheed Khan said that Pakistan earned the right to feature in the prestigious event after winning the Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East (BFAME) in Jordan (Amman) last August.
While Pakistan will be taking part in their seventh Bermuda Bowl open event after a grand performance in the championship at Florida (USA) in 1986 where Pakistan went down to host USA in the final.
Pakistan senior and ladies and team will making debut in the competition.
Country’s famous bridge pair of Zia Mahmud and Masood Salim took Pakistan to new heights in the card sport with their outstanding performance. Jan-e-Alam Fazli and Munir Ataullah were part of that Pakistan team.
Abdul Rehman Allana will lead Pakistan team which also included old guard Jan-e-Alam Fazli, Sultan Siddiqui, Rashid Jafer, Sarfraz Khan and Tehseen Gheewala.
PBF president Rehana Saigol, Roshan Bukhari, Qudsia Dossa, Samia Rasheed, Rubina Agha and Zeenat Azwer are members of Pakistan team.
Pakistan senior team comprised of Tariq Rasheed Khan, Rashid-ul-Ghazi, Hasan Jawed, Yousuf Talpur and Abdul Khaliq.
Members of Pakistan team besides taking part in weekly and monthly events are also having special training and practice sessions.
Tariq said one week before team’s departure for Monaco, team will have final and strenuous training session at Aslam Bridge Hall. He said some member of the ladies team will also be arriving to attend the training camp.—APP
