ISLAMABAD, Sept 29: The death of the chief of the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy is not more than a pause in the process of democratic struggle and the alliance remains committed to principles of democracy, federal parliamentary structure, parliament’s ascendancy and supremacy of the Constitution.

This was said by deputy secretary-general of the People’s Party Parliamentarians in the Senate Mian Raza Rabbani in a statement issued here on Sunday.

He said the PPP would continue its struggle for democratic principles from the platform of ARD.

Paying a rich tribute to the services rendered by late Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, he said that both the PPP and the ARD had always contended that there could be no democracy in the country so long as the government insisted upon the legitimacy of constitutional amendments without parliamentary approval, adding that they also rejected the holding of dual offices by a single individual.

“This position has, once again, been vindicated by the refusal of the Commonwealth to admit the Musharraf regime to its fold. The Commonwealth’s statement on the subject is an endorsement of the PPP and the ARD position that there is no democracy in the country.

“The ARD will move on with its mission ... Those, who like to think that the ARD or the democratic struggle will cease, are living in a world of fantasy. The PPP will keep the ARD alive and active as (it had done) in the past. Let there be no doubt ... about it”.
