Draft Afghan constitution in few days


KABUL, Sept 28: A draft of Afghanistan’s proposed constitution declares the country a Muslim state but does not contain strict Islamic laws the topic of heated debate, an official said on Sunday.

After 11 months of work by dozens of constitutional experts and three months of public consultations, in which 150,000 people submitted suggestions, “a balance has been found”, an Afghan official involved in the drafting told the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
