Easy victory for Dock Lands Diva
LAHORE, Sept 28: Odds-on favourite bay filly Dock Lands Diva confirmed her class when she beat her thirteen rivals to win the Rahwali Plate, a class I, II and III handicap race, featuring a card of eight races during the third Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.
England-bred Dock Lands Diva gave an arm-chair ride to jockey Salah-ud-Din II, who sat still on the filly and had just to guide her on the right course to register an easy three lengths success over King Of Bhakkar.
Brown gelding King Of Bhakkar came rushing from far behind and nosed out bay filly Feel The Freedom to third place, who had been chasing the winner. Chestnut colt Royal Falcon completed the frame.
The winner clocked one minute 14 seconds over 1200m in this seventh race of the day. This was Dock Lands Diva’s fourth successive win.
A race earlier, 80 to 100 favourite Prime Panther in a fine front-running display won the supporting event over 1200m
He beat Happy Boy by about two lengths. Storm Bird and On On completed the board. Earlier chestnut English filly Snow Drop and chestnut horse Zargar were withdrawn from the race leaving only seven runners in the field.
Bay colt, Tora Bora, lived upto her status of 20 to 100 favouritism when he crowned his third success in-a-row in the fifth race of the day.
This speedy son of Baker’s Gate out-of-Nair De Fleur bred locally, responded quickly to the urging of jockey M. Hanif to win comfortably by nine lengths from Amazing. Hunza and Weldon Shogun made up the frame among 15 runners.
Jockeys M. Hanif and Shahid Rehman shared the riding honours of the day by bringing home a brace of winners each to the extreme delight of favourite backers.
Hanif rode fancied blue-roan gelding Asif Choice in the opener and Tora Bora in the fifth race while Shahid Rehman steered favourites Prime Panther in the sixth race and then followed it with a length success in the eighth and last race of the day.
Trainer Mohammad Bashir got the distinction of saddling two winners. He sent out Tora Bora and Dock Lands Diva, both owned by Khawaja M. Arif.
This was once again a punters’ day when six favourites romped home in a card of eight races. The favourites to oblige were Asif’s Choice, Royal Victory, Tora Bora, Prime Panther, Dock Lands Diva and Two-B. Meri Kajal , who won the third race was a four to one chance while rank outsider Minnie Me won the fourth race to upset all calculations of favourite backers.
All races were contested over the sprinting distance of 1200 metres during a cloudy afternoon.
