CM orders probe against police: Beating of JUI workers
MARDAN, Sept 27: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has ordered a judicial inquiry into the alleged violence of the police officials over “peaceful workers” of the Jammiat-i-Ulama-i-Islam (Fazal Rehman) group and warned that those involved in the incident would be punished according to law.
Mr Durrani, while visiting Mardan in connection with enquiring the health of their workers on Saturday, said that peaceful protest was the right of any party worker while keeping the law and order was the duty of the law-enforcement agencies.
On Sept 22, JUI-F workers blocked the main Mardan-Swabi Road during a visit of federal minister Naurez Shakoor, who inaugurated the gas supply to Madressa Tahfeezul Quran at Par Hoti.
The JUI-F workers protested against the visit of the federal minister because they alleged that the local elected members of the MMA were kept away from the inauguration of the gas supply to the area as the people had elected these lawmakers and the government was supposed not to ignore them.
Mr Durrani alleged that if the federal minister had informed elected members of the area before visiting the area the unpleasant incident could not have happened.
He said the elected members of the MMA were aware of the problems of the people of their constituencies and the federal minister neither informed the provincial government nor the local MMA members therefore such an unfortunate incident was occurred. The chief minister said that the provincial government believed in democratic norms and making its utmost efforts to take Opposition parties with them just for the prosperity of the province.
He said that an investigation team had been constituted under the chairmanship of an additional sessions judge to submit its report on the incident.
