ATC seeks early submission of jail challan

GUJRANWALA, Sept 27: Local Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 judge Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah directed the investigating team that challan of the Sialkot jail case should be completed and submitted to court shortly.

Hearing the case on Saturday, the ATC judge issued show-cause notice to Sheikhupura DIG Tariq Saleem Dogar, the head of the investigating team inducted by the Punjab IGP, and directed him to submit his reply on next hearing on Oct 4.

The judge declared police inspector Zulfikar Ali Virk as proclaimed offender. The investigating team informed court that half a dozen doctors of Sialkot DHQ Hospital, including MS Dr Saeed Firdaus, involved in negligence of treatment of judges were summoned for investigation. The judge adjourned the case till Oct 4.

GETS DEATH: A local court on Saturday handed down death sentence and fined Rs200,000 to a convict in a murder case.

According to the prosecution, convict Abdul Rashid had killed Iftikhar over an old enmity in Garjakh on Aug 31, 2002.

Meanwhile, the judge awarded death sentence with a fine of Rs100,000 to a convict in another murder case.

According to the prosecution, convict Zahid Hussain had killed Muhammad Kaleem over domestic issue in Tetley village on Nov 13, 2002.

ABOLISHED: The Saddar tehsil council abolished Rs5.8 million discretionary funds of tehsil Nazim and Naib Nazim and expressed its no-confidence on the finance committee convener through a resolution at a meeting here on Saturday.

The meeting was presided over by tehsil Naib Nazim Sardar Inamul Haq while members of treasury and opposition groups jointly criticized Saddar tehsil Nazim Capt Mubasher Ahmad Cheema (retired) for not resolving their problems.

They alleged that the tehsil Nazim was using all funds for development projects in his own area while members, including women councillors, were being ignored. The meeting approved Rs435,000 each for the male member and Rs300,000 each for the female member of the tehsil council.

In its earlier meeting, the Saddar tehsil council had condemned the tehsil Nazim for imposing taxes on small shopkeepers.
