DADU, Sept 27: A large number of people held a demonstration in Johi on Saturday to protest against BHP, an oil and gas company. They were led by the president, PPP, Johi Taluka, Bashir Ahmed Thaheem.
The protesters said that despite assurances by high government functionaries, local residents were not being provided jobs in the company’s Johi camp.
They further said that residents of other provinces were being provided jobs in their areas but the locals were being deprived of this basic right.
DEMO: Members of Leghari Welfare Association staged a rally outside the local press club on Saturday to protest against head constable Ali Panhwar.
Leader Habibullah Leghari told journalists that the head constable and a constable, Usman Surhio, barged into his house and detained him without any plausible reason.
He alleged that the policemen were demanding a large sum of bribe money for his release.
RALLY: A rally was taken out by an NGO, Jordan, to create awareness regarding education in Johi town on Friday.
Students of primary and higher secondary schools, Nazims, councillors and activists participated in the rally.
Carrying placards and banners, they raised slogans for educational awareness.
They were led by the Nazim, Union Council Johi, Mohammad Usman Jamali and Ahmed Khan Madhosh.
Speaking on the occasion, Bakht Jamal Soomro criticized the educational system and urged that the government’s policies about education should be revised.
He said that only quality education of technical and agrarian subjects could develop this area.
250 BOOKED: At least 250 people, including Nazim Union Council Yar Mohammad Kalhoro, have been booked for blocking the Indus Highway and injuring the executive engineer, irrigation, sub-engineer and policemen on Thursday.
Sub-engineer Khan Mohammad Channa has lodged an FIR with the Dadu town police under section 324 QDO, 353, 341, 147, 148, 149, 427, 114, and 504 PPC that the Nazim, Union Council Yar Mohammad Kalhoro, Imam Ali Shah; along with Dr Imdad Ali Shah, Asadullah Shah, Aijaz Ahmed Qureshi, Mohammad Umer Panhwar, Suleman Panhwar, Ghulam Qadir Panhwar and others blocked the Indus Highway and injured the executive engineer, irrigation, Habibullah Kabooro; Sub-engineer Khan Mohammad Channa, and Constable Abdul Majeed Mangi and broke the windscreens of a police mobile and a vehicle of the irrigation department.
He said that irrigation officials tried to negotiate with the growers to end their protest but the latter started abusing them.
The Nazim told newsmen on Friday that the irrigation officials were not providing them water in the Phaka waterway and were registering fake FIRs of water theft against the growers.
He threatened to launch a drive against the corrupt officers.
DEMO: Meanwhile, employees of the irrigation department boycotted work on Friday and held a protest demonstration in front of the press club to protest against the attack on the irrigation officials.
They were led by the president, Irrigation Employees Union, Sindh, Umer Siddique.
