Nasrullah’s condition critical

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 25: Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) chief and veteran politician Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, who suffered severe heart attack on Tuesday night, is in a critical condition after undergoing two major surgeries late Wednesday night, hospital and family sources told Dawn on Thursday.

A spokesman for the hospital said doctors had performed “emergency coronary angiography” and “coronary angioplasty with stenting”, and a cardiovascular team was doing its best to stabilize his condition.

He said the veteran politician was brought to the hospital in a very serious condition due to “Acute Myocardial Infarction (heart attack)”.

Pakistan Muslim League-N acting president Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, who spent most of the time in the hospital on Thursday, said the doctors after performing surgeries had termed the next 48 hours very crucial. “Thanks God, he has already survived over 30 hours,” said Mr Hashmi, who was the only political leader allowed by the doctors to see the Nawabzada in the CCU.

Mr Hashmi said though the Nawabzada’s condition was serious, doctors were hopeful as, according to them, he had started responding.

According to the hospital sources, the doctors believed that the night between Thursday and Friday was very crucial for the 85-year-old Nawabzada.

They said at one time low blood pressure level of the Nawabzada fell to 30mm, creating panic in the hospital staff. However, it began to improve with the efforts of the doctors.

Earlier in the day, several politicians, including PML-N chairman Raja Zafarul Haq, MNA Tehmina Daultana, federal defence minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, Mushahidullah Khan and Iqbal Zafar Jhagra visited the hospital.
