PESHAWAR, Sept 25: Peshawar-based Amal Gul Afridi is all set to represent Pakistan in the 8th World Open Karate Championship to be held in Tokyo, Japan from Nov 1-2.

The 27-year-old, Amal Gul Afridi, hailing from Khyber Agency, has received invitation from the World Karate Headquarters Tokyo, Japan, has demanded of the government to sponsor his visit.

“I do not have the money, but would arrange from somewhere if the government didn’t help me, because, it was pride for me to represent my country at world level event”, said Black Belt Second Don, Amal.

Being first player from NWFP to represent the country Amal has already proven his mettle by winning silver and bronze medals in 1992 and 1995 editions of the National Games, held in Islamabad.

Another Karachi-based player, Muhibullah, has also been selected, who would proceed to the participate in the prestigious event along with Amal.

He was also member of the national team that won second place in Asian Karate Tournament held in Iran in 1995.

The NWFP karate team clinched 11 medals, including three gold, five silver and three bronze in National Games held in Islamabad in 1992. The NWFP had got second position solely due to Amal’s brilliant performance.

He also competed in the Asian Tournament in Tokyo, January 2002, along with other three players from NWFP, but failed to achieve any worthwhile success.
