DERA GHAZI KHAN, Sept 25: The clinical waste of the District Headquarters Hospital is creating health hazards as it has not been disposed of due to disconnection of gas supply to the burner by the Sui Gas.
According to details, a burner was established on the hospital premises some two years ago in order to dispose of the clinical waste, but its gas connection was severed due to non-payment of dues some time back. Therefore, heaps of clinical waste can be seen on the hospital premises and outside its boundary wall, creating health hazards not only for the patients but also for the citizens.
Assistant medical superintendent Dr Capt Farhat told Dawn that the burner had not been working for the last five months.
Sanitary inspector Abdul Hameed said the hospital had paid its outstanding dues worth Rs121,830 on June 30, but the SNGPL did not restore the gas supply despite reminders.
When contacted, the deputy engineer of the local SNGPL office was not available for comments.
